Feely’s Return From Soccer a Major Boost for Lilies

Between successive relegations and the embarrassment of twelve goals conceded to Dublin and Kerry in this year’s championship, Kildare football needed a boost. And it certainly received a major one this month when 23 year old former minor star Kevin Feely decided to put paid to his professional soccer career and return to Ireland to attend college and, tellingly, to return to his first love, Gaelic Football.

Feely was one of the undoubted stars of the 2010 Minor team which contained such luminaries as Paul Cribbin, Padraig Fogarty, Daniel Flynn, Fionn Dowling and Sean Hurley but many considered the older brother of this year’s minor star Rory to be the “one most likely”. Unfortunately for Kildare GAA he veered off in the direction of professional soccer and moved to England after starting out with Bohemians.

Here’s a feature from this week’s Kildare Nationalist about the Athy man.
