Many thanks to Aaron McNally for providing our player ratings for the Longford replay.
A much improved performance by management and players. Tough call for Man of the Match but we’ve plumped for Fergal Conway whose driving run and goal set the tone for Kildare’s improvement.
Mark Dempsey (6) – Another good outing for Dempsey who is establishing himself with every game.
David Hyland (6) – Definitely not as prominent going forward as his 4-point performance the last day but a defensively solid performance from the Athy man all the same.
Mick O’Grady (7) – Back from injury and he showed why he’s so important to this Kildare team with a good performance on danger man McGivney.
Peter Kelly (6) – Put in a good performance at the back and got to push forward also. Made a crucial 2nd half goal line interception to deny Longford a goal which would have put them back in the game.
Eoin Doyle (7) – Was at the heart of a defence that kept the Longford attack (albeit tame) at bay. Made important blocks and tackles at crucial times and his performance was a big improvement from seven days earlier.
Keith Cribben (6) – Ran at Longford in 2nd half and caused problems. Was defensively solid for the most part and kicked a nice point towards the end.
Kevin Feely (5) – Wasn’t as influential in the air as normal and he just doesn’t look fit enough at present to get up and down the field. Continues to slow down play when he gets on the ball.
*Fergal Conway (9) – Ran at Longford when no one else was willing to in 1st half. Scored a fantastic solo goal which epitomised his willingness to take on his man and kicked a lovely 2nd half point as well.
David Slattery (8) – Wiling to run all day and showed that on Sunday as he carried plenty of ball especially in the 2nd half. Great speed and Longford weren’t able to cope as he cut through their defence although from one of these runs he should have scored when one on one with the Longford keeper. Overall, a good display from the Confey man.
Ben McCormack (6) – As usual with the Sarsfields man he mixed the good with the bad. He struggled to get settled into the game kicking a couple of very bad first half wides – albeit against a very stiff breeze. Came into it more in 2nd half and kicked two fine points.
Tommy Moolick (9) – A late replacement for Eoghan O’Flaherty, Moolick put in a hardworking, tireless and gritty performance. Won plenty of ball from kickouts and kicked 3 fine points as well.
Adam Tyrrell (7) – Solid performance from Tyrrell who is really bringing something different to the Kildare forward line this season. Not as good as his standout 1-7 performance in the drawn game but he converted a couple of placed balls and kicked a nice point from play.
Paddy Brophy (6) – A slight improvement on last weeks performance but he is still trying to find the form of a couple of seasons back. Didn’t get on much ball overall but fired over a nice point early in the 2nd half.
Jimmy Hyland (5) – Playing like a man low on confidence right now. Missed a straight forward free before failing to convert when put through one on one for a goal. Suffered a knock and limped off to be replaced by Neil Flynn after 22 mins.
Neil Flynn (7) – A much improved outing from a man who looked like a shell of himself last week. Got on plenty of ball this time around though and gave an exhibition of free taking – something that was badly missed in the drawn game. Perhaps being dropped was what he needed.
Niall Kelly (5) – Got on limited amount of ball when he came on. Another player who needs to find his best form.
Cathal McNally (6) – Another 10 minute cameo for Cotsy but he won some good dirty ball and turned possession over a couple of times.
Eoghan O’Flaherty / Chris Healy / Kevin O’Callaghan – Not on long enough to be rated.
