29 July 2017 – Kildare 0-17 Armagh 1-17 (All Ireland SFC Qualifier R4, Croke Park)

Our Match Ratings:

Mark Donnellan 6 – unlucky to concede the goal after making initial save. Scored a fine free. Very lucky to escape a black card for “altercation” with Murnin.#

Peter Kelly 6 – still struggling to reach the heights of 2010 on a rare start nowadays.

Mick O’Grady 6 – not his best game with Armagh’s full forward line quicker to the ball most of the time.

Ollie Lyons 5 – form tailed off as the year progressed and struggled to contain Clarke despite help from Slattery. Reputation as a man-marker suffering as a result of poor show on Bernard Brogan in the Leinster Final and again here.

Jonathan Byrne 6 – must take his share of criticism for problems down Kildare’s right side all day.

David Hyland 7 – tough job filling Eoin Doyle’s shoes but Hyland rose to it as the game wore on. Commitment levels impressive as always.

Keith Cribbin 7 – possibly Kildare’s most improved player this season?  Pace coming forward continues to trouble opposition.

Kevin Feely 7 – Not his best display as Armagh did their best to avoid his area. Also missed a crucial free. That’s judging him on the high standards he has set for himself. Remained influential.

Paul Cribbin 6 – Hard worker as always but frustration with his finishing. Performance tailed off in second half.

Fergal Conway 8 – Back to form after a subdued Leinster Final. Strong in possession and two points in second half that should have been influential.

Niall Kelly 6 – Another who had a frustrating day overall. Flitted in and out. Two good points.

David Slattery 6 – Seemed to fall between two stools. Not quite marking Clarke and not very penetrating from an attacking sense. Disappointing after great Leinster Final. Breakthrough year all the same.

Paddy Brophy 7 – Worked and worked to get himself into the game in the first half. Honesty of effort a real plus since his return. He will get better. Even here he was close to being Kildare’s most influential player with three points from play hinting at the potential once he is fully settled back in Ireland.

Daniel Flynn 5 – Disappointing that this is how the season ended for Daniel. Couldn’t get into it at all. Well marked by Armagh all through. Shocking miss in first-half.

Ben McCormack 6 – Has had a stop-start introduction to senior scene this season and this was a similar experience for him. Lots of potential and will get better with experience one assumes.

Cathal McNally 5, Fionn Dowling 6, Mark Hyland 6, Cian O’Donoghue 6, Eamon Callaghan, Tommy Moolick (not on long enough).
