A more clinical Laois recorded a well-deserved eight-point win over Kildare in St Conleth’s Park on Saturday to qualify for the Quarter Finals of the Leinster U20 Hurling Championship. Kildare fielded nine of the team that shocked Wexford at the same stage last year but Laois were forewarned and forearmed.

They never looked back after finding the Kildare net with the game’s opening score after only three minutes. Cillian Dunne’s shot after a mazy run through the home defence was parried by goalkeeper Alo Hackett but Adam Kirwan was on hand to apply the finish.

By half-time Laois were six points ahead before a brief revival from Kildare at the start of the second half brought them back to within two points after 39 minutes but Laois powered on with Kirwan ending with 1-3 and Dunne and Dan Delaney hitting five points each as they ran out comfortable winners.
